About Us
The BEA Society advocates for global health equality by addressing health disparities facing women and newborns in the developing world.
The BEA Society is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing maternal and neonatal mortality in the developing world. The BEA Society’s inspiration arose from a 2019 research paper detailing straightforward solutions to address the high maternal and perinatal mortality rates present in many developing world countries: The consensus opinion regarding this public health crisis is that the simple provision of appropriate medical supplies to allow for safe deliveries and neonatal care could significantly improve maternal and neonatal outcomes. We decided to found an organization that would be transformative in the lives of mothers and newborns in the developing world. The name Bea, short for Beatrix, is derived from Latin and means “the bringer of joy or blessings.” Thus, the organization was named the BEA Society dedicated to building equal access for healthcare.
Over the next nine months, our fledgling organization took flight. Our efforts were notably facilitated by the altruism and sage wisdom of countless mentors in the state/federal government, the manufacturing sector, and the legal community. We implemented a mission statement, secured a network of domestic medical product manufacturers, identified quality providers in the developing world whose patients would benefit from these supplies, and then developed a nexus of logistical agents to facilitate transportation of our supplies to mothers and infants in the developing world. Our efforts ultimately resulted in the BEA Society being officially granted 501(c)3 status in 2020, signalling the Federal government’s assessment that our organization’s global contributions were of sufficient value to confer tax-exempt status and allow all donations to the BEA Society to be tax-deductible.
Our corporate sponsorships and partnerships with charitable distribution programs have allowed the BEA Society to purchase high quality medical supplies at or below cost, thus exponentially compounding the value of our donors’ contributions to mothers and infants in the developing world. Donors receive transparent detailed reports that attest that 100% of their donations are used in the provision of medical supplies to mothers and infants in the developing world.
